Thames Valley District School Board secondary school students Jana Anan and Savrup Saran have been elected Student Trustees, while Fred Nicholas was elected as the Board’s Indigenous Student Trustee.

Their elections were confirmed after Student Trustee Debates and Elections were held this week at the Education Centre.

Student Trustees are non-voting members of the Board, but have the same opportunities to participate in meetings and committees with municipally elected Trustees. The 2023-24 Student Trustees will represent the voice of their peers in important Board decisions.

“This opportunity will allow me to advocate for the group of students here today and every single student across TVDSB,” said Jana Anan, a student at Sir Wilfred Laurier Secondary School.

Woodstock Collegiate Institute student, Savrup Saran, who was re-elected as the county Student Trustee said, “I want to ensure that all students' voices are represented at the Board level, ensuring their voices shine through their respective initiatives."

All three Student Trustees share in the important responsibility of bringing the perspective of Thames Valley students to the Board table. As Co-Chairs of the Student Advisory Council, they meet throughout the year with students across the district to discuss and provide input on issues at the school and system level.
